ARCHER ROOSE

I worked with Colossus Creative to create this :15 for Archer Roose to promote their canned wines at the LA Football Club’s stadium.

Colossus provided initial direction for the animation until we pivoted and I then concepted, designed and animated this using Blender. After looking through inspiration from other product animations I used creative compositions and camera movements to bring these cans to life in a looping animation.

Using just the flat labels for each can I rendered each one in 3D and created the environments for them to live in.

CONCEPT

Make an energetic, flashy animation that shows off the varieties of wines including Bubble Rosé, Pinot Grigio, Malbec, and Rosé.

ORIGINAL STORYBOARDS

At the start of the project, these were the gameplan. Very nice layouts that each showoff different aspects of the cans. The plan was to animate each one and cut between the scenes with the payoff on the final frame.

As animation began, we all felt like there was room for improvement and so we put our heads together to pivot.

EARLY ANIMATION

This was the first pass of Motion Design using the boards above. It proved to be a good intro for me into the world, however it wasn’t as dynamic and exciting as we had hoped.

Unfortunately, this can happen at times when static designs don’t translate as hoped into final form. It was a good learning moment for us all and helped inform the next approach.

INSPIRATION

Before jumping into a new style, I spent some time looking through Behance, Vimeo and Instagram to find examples of colorful product animations. These are screenshots that felt like directions I liked. They use clean geometric compositions, simple lighting to highlight the product and smooth camera movements.

STORYBOARD 2.0

Once I had my inspiration, I needed a basic plan of attack so I knew how the flow of the animation would play out.

How would one shot follow the previous one so it felt purposeful? What kind of story and evolution did I want this to take on? How could it resolve but still become a seamless loop?

With this in mind, I was able to plan each composition and then knock out every shot in the final animation you see here.

CLAY RENDER

Early on in 3D Animation, it’s all shapes and shadows. I first work to get the flow and compositions down before adding in textures, colors and fine tune the whole environment. This is a look at what the animation looks like at its bare bones.

LET’S TEAM UP

I’m always looking for new opportunities and am comfortable working with teams big and small to bring your ideas to life.
